Flames missed only two games out of their first eight NHL contests. Vancouver Nelson Skalbania and his partners got the ownership of team for $16 million in 1980. Flames then moved north out of the Corral in Calgary.
Flames replaced Ptrick by Smythe division in their second season. They managed to set building blocks for prospect geographic contests. Flames traded Lanny McDonald from Colorado Rockies with Cliff Fletcher’s passionate shots. Team performed badly with below 0.500 that year and lost a contest against Vancouver Canucks in the first round. They continued struggling with a new coach Bob Johnson.
