Colorado Misses Playoffs for the First Time in 13 Years

Monday, August 31st, 2009
Audrey Nolan asked:

The Colorado Avanche is out of the playoffs for the first time since 1994, the team tried hard at the end to be in the playoffs but it was just not enough. They collected 30 of the 36 possible points in the last 18 games for the regular season.

The game started when the Avalanche dedicated a video tribute to Peter Forsberg, who is a forward for the Nashville Predators and who turn all the hopes down for the Avalanche by winning the game 4-2. “It’s a tough feeling coming in here,” said Forsberg, whose team clinched the fourth seed in the Western Conference and will host the San Jose Sharks in the first round of the playoffs. “You’ve got to be professional”.

Avalanche Captain Joe Sakic doesn’t care for the playoffs anymore now that his team is out of the competition. He says he ended up the season and that he is very tired and that he is not going to watch them because is very hard to just sit back and see.

Colorado had a lot of rookies this year, that’s the reason the captain Joe Sakic decided to sign up for one more year. “With the way the young kids played this season, I really believe we grew up as a team,” said Sakic, who led the team in points (100), goals (36) and assists (64). “I’m very excited about what we have here.”

“I think with a new team and new faces it took a little bit longer to gel,” forward Ian Laperriere said. “It’s the only thing I can point to. But to come back from that far like we did, I’ve never been a part of something like that.”

No matter how Colorado’s late-season charge is gone, the Avalanche will be spectators for the playoffs for the first time since the franchise moved from Quebec before the 1995-96 season.

Crocs and Volleyball Go Together

Sunday, August 30th, 2009
Temp asked:

The Crocs Company began when three guys based in Boulder, Colorado designed the Crocs shoes. These guys developed this innovative footwear for outdoors and boating enthusiasts, who, the founders thought, were looking for a better kind of accessible slip-resistant shoe.

Although Crocs were originally designed for boating and the outdoors because of its slip-resistant and non-marking sole, Crocs eventually became the title sponsor of the Association of Volleyball Professionals Tour starting in 1996.

The Association of Volleyball Professionals is an organization that was founded by Leonard Armato in 1983. The organization started its own American beach volleyball tour in 1984 and quickly grew in popularity. By the late 1980s, the team reached even higher popularity because of many successful players being on the tour. The likes of Mike Dodd, Randy Stoklos and Sinjin Smith were on the tour.

The 1990s are considered the glory days for the association. The amount of tour corporate sponsorship and prize money was at its peak during these years. Legends Kent Steffes and Karch Kiraly dominated the tour in the 1990s. Also during this time, the association started to hold women’s events, including competing with the Women’s Professional Volleyball Association.
__________________________________________________________________
Between the years of 1997 and 2001 there was a large decline in support and popularity in the association’s tours. But starting in 2001 the association began to revamp its reputation and now has the title sponsorship of Crocs.

Crocs have two versions of the shoes made for Association of Volleyball Professionals. There is the Athens, which is a slip-on sandal, and there is the Beach, which is the basic model for the Crocs (with the slip-on clog form and strap).

But volleyball isn’t the only sport that Crocs have come to support. Crocs also have NHL (the National Hockey League), NFL (the National Football League), PGA (the Professional Golfers’ Association), and the MLB (Major League Baseball) versions of their Crocs.

There are also NASCAR drivers’ versions of Crocs. There are Crocs with the names of Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt, and Jimmy Johnson on them.

Crocs also have collegiate versions of their shoes. College versions include Florida State, East Carolina, Arizona, Georgia, Michigan State and Duke.

Crocs’ secret to being so comfortable and practical is the use of croslite, which is made out of a foam resin made of ethylene vinyl acetate.

Crocs really are a comfortable yet supportive piece of footwear. The standard design of Crocs shoes has a heel strap that keeps that shoe on the food. This strap can also be roll forward to make the shoes a slip-on clog. It has a ventilated toe box, which is the front of the shoe. This airy toe box keeps the feet cooled and comfortable.

Crocs have a supportive foot base that helps the arch of the foot. Lastly, Crocs shoes have air holes in the front of the shoes that help to filter air sand and water through the shoes for the wearer’s ultimate comfort and usability.

Overall, Crocs are one shoe company that is a supporter of all sports, including the Association of Volleyball Professionals.

Red Wings Steamroller Rolls On

The Red Wings Steamroller Rolls On

On the eve of game three of the Stanley Cup Finals, it seems inevitable that the Detroit Red Wings will soon hoist hockey’s most beloved trophy for the fifth time in twelve years. This team, like their championship predecessors, seems like a steamroller on ice, a “beat-down” machine that cannot be stopped. Oh, I had high hopes when the playoffs started, but those hopes began to fade as the opponents fell one by one. First it was Columbus who went down, and without much of a fight mind you; Anaheim followed, almost pulling off the victory by taking the Wings to seven games; then came the Chicago Blackhawks who didn’t play as well as the statistics indicate.

So here we are, Detroit leading the Penguins 2 games to none as the series heads to Pittsburgh. Sigh.

Look, I’m not a Detroit hater by any means. God bless ‘em - they consistently play great hockey year in and year out and contend for the Stanley Cup. Winning the Cup is what it’s all about, so the Red Wings are doing their job. I guess I just wish that other organizations would learn from the Red Wings’ example and put a better product on the ice. Although I have my own favorite team to root for there is one thing I greatly admire about the Detroit organization, and that is their ability to adapt.

The team of today does not play the same style of hockey as the 1997 team that ended a 55 year championship drought in the Motor City. Back then it was built on speed and deadly accurate shooting. The Russian Five skated circles around opponents while finding the net with apparent ease. Detroit dispatched St. Louis, Anaheim, Colorado and Philadelphia to win it all, with the most impressive feat being the two sweeps against the Ducks and Flyers. The speed and finesse game continued for a few years while the team had the players to do it, but as those players left and were replaced, the team adapted to their new crew.

The 2009 Red Wings aren’t necessarily the fastest skaters in the league, but they are among the most disciplined. They choke off center ice like nobody’s business, not allowing the opposition to mount a sustainable offense. Henrik Zetterberg is doing a masterful job blanketing Sidney Crosby, and the whole Detroit defense is protecting the net as though they were all goalies. In the offensive zone the wings have a punishing fore check that dares the Penguins to stop them. They shoot early and often knowing that getting the puck to the net will eventually produce goals.

So what about Pittsburgh? I am as disappointed with them as I have been with the rest of Detroit’s opponents. They live or die on the backs of Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, which is not such a bad thing in the less-than-tough Eastern Conference. But going against the Red Wings they’ve discovered what it means to be battered and slammed for sixty minutes of hockey. And like Columbus, Anaheim and Chicago before them, they have played timid in both of the first two games.

If the Penguins hope to mount a comeback series win, they need to understand that skate and shoot isn’t going to cut it. They need to be just as aggressive, just as stifling at center ice, and just as willing to play hard hitting hockey. They need to play the entire game the same way they played the final four minutes of Sunday’s loss. They need to adapt, or the steamroller will finish its job quickly.

Kick Up your Chevy a Notch With a Truck Speaker Box

Friday, August 28th, 2009
Mark Markham asked:

So you’ve just bought your brand new Chevy GMC, Chevy Avalanche, or Chevy Colorado, and you’re rolling down the street on a beautiful day with the windows down. That new truck smell is a pleasing scent that goes along well with the comfortable seats and the feel of a nice big truck. You hear the purr of the engine and turn up some of your favorite tunes in the premium stock system that came with your new kicking Chevy. However, there is something slightly off, something missing. What could it be? The stock speakers sound decent but there’s just no boom to it. What you’re missing is a sub woofer and the truck speaker box to go with it. Adding a sub woofer and sub enclosure to your brand new Chevy GMC will give you the bass that you need when driving down the road. High quality sub woofer boxes along with the right amp and subwoofer can bring out an entirely new level of sound in your Chevy. Stock speakers from the manufacturer can sound decent, and even perform well in trucks like the Chevy Avalanche and Chevy Colorado, but there is always something left to be desired. Many professional car audio companies have the high quality products you need to get that extra punch out of your truck. You’ll be on the road and hearing that boom out of your system in no time.

Taking time to pick out the right amp, sub woofer, and sub enclosure for your Chevy GMC, Chevy Avalanche, or Chevy Colorado is of utmost importance. There are many things to consider before installing any type of system in your Chevy. One major problem that often comes into light is the notion of space when putting a system in a truck. Seeing as though there isn’t much room in a truck for a sub woofer and amp, it’s important to choose a sub enclosure that is right for your Chevy Avalanche or Chevy GMC. That’s why choosing top of the line subwoofer boxes that are designed to fit your model of Chevy whether it’s a Chevy GMC, Chevy Colorado, Chevy Silverado, or Chevy Avalanche is your best choice. A truck speaker box will save space in your truck for leg room, supplies, or anything else while still providing the best sound for your system. Not only will it save space, but because it is designed specifically for your type of truck, it will blend in and look like part of the original vehicle.

The key to getting amazing sound out of your sub woofer and amp is matching them up with the right sub enclosure. If you buy with a professional company, many of their amplifiers and sub woofers are top name brands that are fitted with high quality subwoofer boxes flawlessly. Only the best materials should be used for sub enclosures which includes medium density fiberboard to keep down resonation and create a remarkable bass sound and feel from your system.

Don’t skimp out on great sound for your Chevy GMC. By installing a high quality sound system you’ll not only enjoy your brand new truck even more, but you’ll also increase the resale value. Kick up your Chevy a notch and grab a sub woofer, amplifier, and truck speaker box that you’ll truly love.
