The Flames hockey team was originally formed thousands of miles away from Calgary. Tom Cousins was the head of a Georgia based group in 1972 who introduced hockey with Atlanta Flames to the South. Bill Putnam was chosen by the team as president and Cliff Fletcher as general manager to manage the operations. When Flames started playing in NHL, NHL was facing tough contest from World Hockey Association (WHA) that was getting popular in United States. Flames missed only two games out of their first eight NHL contests. Vancouver Nelson Skalbania and his partners got the ownership of team for $16 million in 1980. Flames then moved north out of the Corral in Calgary.

Flames replaced Ptrick by Smythe division in their second season. They managed to set building blocks for prospect geographic contests. Flames traded Lanny McDonald from Colorado Rockies with Cliff Fletcher’s passionate shots. Team performed badly with below 0.500 that year and lost a contest against Vancouver Canucks in the first round. They continued struggling with a new coach Bob Johnson.

Terry Crisp replaced Bob Johnson who joined US amateur as coach in 1987. Flames had most regular season points in 1987 and won Presidents trophy while Albertans ruled next two years in Edmonton. Oilers did well in winning two Stanley Cups in a row. Doug Gilmour was brought in 1988-89 and Flames arrangement was splintered by Theo Fleury. They traveled to Vancouver, Los Angeles and Chicago to meet famous Montreal Canadiens in Stanley Cup final.

Next year when every thing was favorable for the flames player Revolt became the reason of departure of Terry Crisp and foundation of the team was shattered. Doug Risebrough came next but Edmonton Oilers defeated them in the first round of the contest. Cliff Fletcher left Calgary and joined Toronto after nineteen successful years. Gary Roberts and Sergei Makarov did well in 1992 contests but to no avail. A year after Dave King, coach of Canadian national team joined Calgary and implemented his defending strategy.

In the beginning, Flames had only a few young players in their side. Dallas landed Jerome Iginla played a vital role in foundations of the team. Iginla played splendidly but Flames got carried on with financial issues. Canadian dollar Inflation, increasing salaries and no strong revenue stream being the major reason for financial issues. Flames have not repeated their successful performance that they enjoyed in franchise history. Even a Stanley Cup is not a piece of cake any more.

Indianapolis Colts - Horses, A Symbol Of Speed And Agility

Saturday, September 19th, 2009
Freddie Brister asked:
__________________________________________________________________

Human beings raise above all the species of the Animal Kingdom. We are the most intellectual creatures as we can rationalize; show emotions, do logical tasks, speak with words and many skills that are evident to every person living. Despite it all, animals symbolically represent the characteristics of the humankind. Sometimes, animals are personified in statements. This figure of speech is not only important in making poetry. However, they are used to rationalize the strengths within humans. Moreover, there is no other way to describe them but through animals.

In the field of sports, a group of men forming a team creates logos in their uniforms to represent them as a whole. All of their qualities are being backed up by a particular creature abundant in their hometowns or what they can see the best to describe their performance. One of the commonly used symbols is the horse. These warm-blooded creatures are not only gifted with good equine intelligence but they are also the symbolism of speed, agility and manhood. No wonder most sports in United States and across the world, utilize this creature as part of their logos.

Some of the teams that use them are:

1.Indianapolis Colts- Although they do not have the shape of the horse on their logo, they used a horseshoe for it. Their name is derived from its male variety. This was the former Baltimore team. They were one of the first 11 members when NFL was founded. They changed their name as such because of the financial difficulties they faced from their loss.

2.Cornwall Colts- This is a hockey team from Canada. They were the champions for the Bogart Cup, 4 times in 1995-1996 and 2000-2001.They also won the Fred Cup but never got a title to the Royal Bank Cup.

3.Denver Broncos- The team from Denver Colorado founded in 1959. They have two logos with horses in it. All are in the shades of orange and blue. In the early days, they never had titles in the AFC but in 1997-98, they became the Super bowl Champions.

Horses are not only used to represent teams in baseball, football or hockey. They are used as a symbol for luxury cars. The famous Ferrari, the famous Italian sports car, uses a black stallion with shield as their symbol. They are also famous for their sleek and **** automobile appearance with speed you cannot get in your ordinary cars. Ford Mustang is also one of the to-die for cars that you can get. It is one of the so-called “dream cars” for many men. Their famous logo is a mustang running wild. This car is also used for racing. If you have one of this, whether old or not, you will be glad to have it overhauled. Moreover, when you do, you can have people will turn their heads upon hearing the roar of the engine.

Horses are good representation for any team sports like football. Indianapolis Colts, Cornwall and Denver Broncos are just some of the professionals using their logo. Moreover, as for cars, well most of them using horses as logo are built for speed. Therefore, if you want to be the next fast and the furious on your streets think horses.

Boston Bruins Tickets

Saturday, September 12th, 2009
maria.walker asked:

Boston Bruins belongs to one of the six original teams of NHL.  NHL franchise was bought by Grocery magnate Charles Adams for $15,000 in 1924. Yellow and brown color of Bruins team was like those of Brookside grocery stores. Bruins had a bad first season with a depressive 6-24 record. Hockey fans in Boston were hopeless until 1928 when Boston Gardens opened. Boston Bruins were a strong squad for Stanley cup in three years time of their start. They played their first final against Ottawa Senators in 1927 and lost. But team’s struggle continued and they played against New York Rangers and defeated them to win Stanly Cup Championship.

Bruins missed many games in early 1960s. A strong passionate 37 year old Harry Sinden who never played in NHL took charge in 1966-67. Bruins started to twist the corner when their future celebrity defender Bobby Orr qualified for NHL. Orr changed the conventional defense strategy by top attacks and set of goals. He played 11 seasons in NHL and won a Calder trophy as rookie of the year in 1966-67. Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito provided the strong leadership that made it possible for Bruins to change their 29 year Stanley Cup terrible history. They played against St. Louis Blues, won four consecutive games, and made unforgettable history in NHL history. Bobby Orr scored the Stanley Cup winning goal against Blues defender Noel Picard. Sinden left because of a salary argument but team continued its top performance. In a seven game sequence they played against Montreal Canadiens and lost in the first round. This defeat proved to be a motivation for Bruins and they placed themselves at first position in 1971-72 season.

In 1990 Bruins had a chance to recover when they played against Oilers in Stanley Cup finals. They won one game this time but there was no contest for Mark Messier and Bill Ranford led Edmonton Oiler team. Boston missed contests in 1996-97 season that resulted in a change of coaching lines and Pat Burns was hired. Bruins were on their feet again under his rigid defensive format and young stars as Joe Thornton and Sergei Samsonov before they lost against Washington Capitals in a six game contest. Bruins traded Ray Bourque to the Colorado Avalanche. In 1990s they were the seventh winning team by qualifying for a Stanley Cup final and three conference finals.

Allison, Guerin, Thornton and Samsonov made Bruins a younger squad in 2000s. Allison and Guerin left due to financial issues and also a new coach Robby Ftorek was hired. Bruins sustained heir performance but had not enough resources to get profound in NHL contests.

Colorado Misses Playoffs for the First Time in 13 Years

Monday, August 31st, 2009
Audrey Nolan asked:

The Colorado Avanche is out of the playoffs for the first time since 1994, the team tried hard at the end to be in the playoffs but it was just not enough. They collected 30 of the 36 possible points in the last 18 games for the regular season.

The game started when the Avalanche dedicated a video tribute to Peter Forsberg, who is a forward for the Nashville Predators and who turn all the hopes down for the Avalanche by winning the game 4-2. “It’s a tough feeling coming in here,” said Forsberg, whose team clinched the fourth seed in the Western Conference and will host the San Jose Sharks in the first round of the playoffs. “You’ve got to be professional”.

Avalanche Captain Joe Sakic doesn’t care for the playoffs anymore now that his team is out of the competition. He says he ended up the season and that he is very tired and that he is not going to watch them because is very hard to just sit back and see.

Colorado had a lot of rookies this year, that’s the reason the captain Joe Sakic decided to sign up for one more year. “With the way the young kids played this season, I really believe we grew up as a team,” said Sakic, who led the team in points (100), goals (36) and assists (64). “I’m very excited about what we have here.”

“I think with a new team and new faces it took a little bit longer to gel,” forward Ian Laperriere said. “It’s the only thing I can point to. But to come back from that far like we did, I’ve never been a part of something like that.”

No matter how Colorado’s late-season charge is gone, the Avalanche will be spectators for the playoffs for the first time since the franchise moved from Quebec before the 1995-96 season.

Women in Men’s Sports - Should it be Allowed?

Friday, August 21st, 2009
Nishan Wilde asked:

Over the past century, women have come along way in terms of equality. Ever since Women’s Suffrage (which, by the way, may be the worst name ever for women’s equality), in most apsects women have been put on a level playing field with their male counterparts. During the brunt of the 20th Century, women largely spent their time tending to the home. However, as a society we have since left those archaic times, and women currently comprise nearly 50% of the work force.

So, the next question that comes to mind is whether or not this equality issue should be taken to the next level, allowing women to participate in sports that are predominantly played by men. Here are my thoughts on the issue.

I generally feel as if I am a progressive thinker. In no way, shape or form do I believe that women are of a lesser life form than men. Women are just as intelligent, talented and capable as men, far surpassing men in some areas. However, when it comes to sports, it is a virtual certainty that men are bigger, faster and stronger than women. As a result, it is no secret that women find it rather difficult to compete with men. But, does that mean that women should be excluded from the male side of sports? Not necessarily. I feel that in sports like swimming, golf, track, and tennis, women should be allowed to compete with men if they feel up to the task. You may be wondering why women should be allowed to compete in some sports and not others. Here is why. The aforementioned sports are individual, non-contact sports. If there is no physical contact between the contestants, the outcome of the game depends less on physical prowess than on skill. Physicality still is a factor, but not nearly as much as in team or contact sports. When skill is the main deteminant, I don’t see any reason why women should not be able to play with men.

However, when it comes to contact sports like football, bsketball, soccer and hockey, I personally don’t think that women should be allowed to compete. My reasoning is two fold. First, when women and men play together, men find themselves at a distinct disadvantage. Men have been raised to treat women with respect and kindness. This notion definitely shows up on the playing field. For example, when in college I participated in co-ed intramural sports. As I found myself playing against a female opponent, I felt bad taking the ball away from her. Furthermore, even if I did decide to take the ball, I did it in a very unnatural way, trying not to be too rough. I simply did not want to be that “jerk” who was too physical with a girl. Because of experiences similar to my own, I feel that women should not be allowed to play contact sports with men.

The second reason I am against women in male team or contact sports is as follows. I have heard countless horror stories of sexist treatment of women who play male sports. The one that comes to mind occurred in 1999. At the University of Colorado, a young women by the name of Katie Hinda played on the football team as a replacement placekicker. During her tenure at Colorado, she was subjected to sexual harassment on a daily basis, eventually claiming that she had been ***** by a fellow teammate. Regarding whether or not women should be allowed to play sports with men, I thing this instance speaks for itself.

In summation, I want to reiterate my belief that women are equal to men. However, when it comes to contact sports, there are just too many issues and obstacles in the way. Not only are men at a psychological disadvantage because of our society’s consensus towards gentle treatment of women, but also, women can often times find themselves in very compromising, even dangerous situations. Therefore, women in men’s sports is not a good idea.

College Sports Ticket - Motivate the Team, be There to Cheer Them

Thursday, August 20th, 2009
Robert Riles asked:

College sports tickets are a big rage in the west and are available on all leading sports related websites. Right from the time when children are in school, they are encouraged by their parents to play at least one sport or take up some form of extra curricular activity. This is so they get some extra exercise and cultivate a hobby apart from their reading books or listening to music. Sports is also a way of bonding with others and learning to deal with different kinds of people and situations. College sports tickets are a rage in America, and students have the choice to play any sport they are interested in. And if they are good at it, they could play for the National levels which might earn them a scholarship at a prestigious University. There will be a bulletin board that states the various teams participating and when the matches are scheduled to take place along with the tickets ,the availability and how one can purchase them.

To watch a NCAA match of either football, or basket ball would be as much fun as watching the world cup. The teams are all renowned and are led by professional coaches who train them for these matches. If one is aware of a match being planned where the team they support or a friend is playing, they need to make arrangements to reserve tickets well in advance. This will also ensure they get the best seats in the stand unless they don’t mind sitting in the back rows. Also, the more time they take in booking the tickets, the higher the prices are going to be, as towards the last few days, the ticket rates will hit rocket high and there will be those few desperate souls who will buy them.

If a match between the Boston College eagles and Miami Hurricanes has been scheduled for the 10th of November, then tickets will be sold out by the 20th of October itself and so its a case of the early bird getting the worm.. For games such as the Big 12 tournaments, where the leading schools from Texas play against the teams from other parts of America- Colorado, Oklahoma, Nebraska and others, tickets can be purchased online. They make sure to give relevant and important information pertaining to the sport and to those who want to be a part of the audience, some do’s and dont’s which they should adhere to. Just like one makes a dash for a concert or movie ticket, here too they need to act smart if they want the college sports ticket This is just so they can enjoy the match. In football matches, order is followed since fights between fans are known to happen often. And if you are a first timer or a visitor to the country and are curious about the games, you can get background information about the sport. Information about the teams can be found along with the College sports tickets.

The Pride of University of Michigan

Monday, August 17th, 2009
Bobby Brister asked:

The University of Michigan is famous for producing some of the most reputable leaders of the country. They hone the minds of Justices and state leaders. One of the most renowned alumni of the University is the 38th president of the United States, Gerald Rudolph Ford Jr.

However, this is not the only achievement Michigan is proud to have. Aside from their highly regarded graduates, they are also home to one of the best university athletics, the Michigan Wolverines. They have varsity teams to represent them in various college sports association.

They have one of the best sports standings in the past decade, as they have been included in the top six of NACDA Director’s Cup seven times. This is a proof of the efforts of the university to be consistent with their team standards.

They have also proven that they have a strong team in various fields. They remain the sole university to have championship trophy in four different sports. These are football, ice hockey, baseball, and basketball.

Among the above-mentioned sports, football is the most celebrated. They won 11 national championships for this sport. They have also more reason to display those Michigan Wolverine merchandises because their football team is also one of the most envied teams in college football.

Other teams have all the reason to envy the Wolverines. They are among the few teams who have marked unforgettable milestones in the history of college football. They have set an NCAA record in terms of winning percentage and number of games won. One football record that will stay for eternity is being the first ever team to win the Rose Bowl, the oldest bowl game, in 1902. They also have one of the largest football stadium in the world. Who would not want to wear their Michigan Wolverine gear if they have these things to brag about?

The football team has always been strong. It started playing in 1879. Michigan football history clearly shows that the team has dominated the game. After winning the first Rose Bowl, they went on to win in the next three years.

Another notable fact that includes the Michigan Wolverines football is its rivalry with the Ohio State University. In the fan polls conducted by ESPN, the rivalry between the two is the greatest in the American sports in the years 2000 and 2004. The NCAA record they set in 2003 drawing 112,118 viewers when they played the Ohio is one of its proofs.

Snow Bowl is a witness to that rivalry. The name refers to the game between the two in November 1950 where UM defeated the OSU, making them the Big Ten Champion. The game made a mark in the hearts of football fans because of the level of difficulty their athletes endured. They played in unlikely winter weather.

Although the team seemed strong, they also experience some heartbreaking losses. An unforgettable demise happened in 1994 when the Colorado Buffaloes won a non-conference game. It was a painful defeat because everyone thought Michigan had the game in the bag.

University of Michigan has plenty to celebrate in terms of the turnouts of its graduates and the standing of most of its varsity teams, particularly football. They may have failed at some point, but their overall success overshadows it.

Colorado Avalanche Tickets

maria.walker asked:

The Colorado Avalanche is a National Hockey League team that was founded in Denver, Colorado. It was formed in 1972-73 in World Hockey Association (WHA), and joined National Hockey League (NHA) in 1979 when the Quebec Nordiques experienced suspended success but had monetary failure in 1994-95 NHL season. Team owner Marcel Aubut asked for a save from Quebec’s provincial government. The rescue was of no avail and Aubut had to sell the team to a group of investors in Denver. The franchise was packed up and shipped to Colorado and renamed the Colorado Avalanche.

Colorado entered with their excellent players like Joe Sakic, Peter Forsberg and a strong defender Adam Foote in their first season in Denver. Lindors denied playing for Nords as it was a small town and uncompetitive team.

Lindros refused to play for the Nords citing the small town and the uncompetitive team. Stars like Ray Bourque, Peter Forsberg, Alex Tanguay, Patrick Roy, and Rob Blake and other superstars were brought in the team.

The unique trade resulted in first round pick, Steve Duchesne, Peter Forsberg, Mike Ricci, Jocelyn Thibault, Chris Simon, Kerry Huffman, Ron Hextall, and $ 15 Million to the Nords. Patrick Roy was in the net for Montreal Canadians on the 2nd of December, 1995 when they played against Detroit Red Wings and lost the game that was worst defeat in franchise history 11-1.

Team had a good-quality next season, but was incapable to repeat their Stanley Cup success. They were defeated by ultimate champion Detroit Red Wings in the Western Conference Finals by 4-2.

The team sustained that went profound into the post season, but couldn’t reach to the Stanley Cup Finals, until the 2000-01 NHL season. Ray Bourque had only played for Boston Bruins until 1999-2000 and wanted to have one more blast at Stanley Cup. Ray Bourque was a famous defender. Bourque asked for a trade and Bruins facilitated a deal. Bourque was traded to Colorado with Dave Andreychuk in exchange for Brian Rolston,  Grenier, Paulson and a first round pick.  Team didn’t do any trading after they got Bourque.

The 2000-01 Avalanche were again a leading inspiration. They won the President’s Trophy easily with a astounding 118 points and were balanced to win Ray Bourque his first Stanley Cup after twenty-two years. Forward star Peter Forsberg had emergency malice surgery after their second round series against the Los Angeles Kings and missed the rest of the contests. The Stanley Cup Finals were tough and exhausting and called physical series.

Colorado was not capable of recalling that moment of fame. They were a outstanding team and performed consistently. Actually, the 2003-04 NHL season was the first time when team didn’t win its division. It mislaid that by only one point to Vancouver Canucks. In 2003-04 Colorado was favorites and many people thought Colorado would win as they had Teemu Selanne and Paul Kariya pair. This powerful pair brought man successes to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim earlier. But team didn’t meet expectations of many people. No player was resigned after the end of shut out.

Anaheim Ducks

maria.walker asked:

The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim is a National Hockey League (NHL) team that is located in Anaheim. They were established in 1993 and Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim is their home ground where they play wearing maroon and green colored uniforms.

They made it to the league as an expansion team in 1993. In the same year they drafted Paul Kariya in the very first round of the NHL Entry Draft. Kariya laid a strong foundation and led the team to an appearance in the Stanley Cup, which took place in 2003. He departed for the Colorado Avalanche soon after.

In the late seventies, the Ducks recorded their first playoff appearance and white washed their opponents, the Phoenix Coyotes in seven games to secure a place in the quarterfinals. Unfortunately, they were defeated by the Detroit’s.

They recorded their best show during the 2002-03 seasons when they made it to the Stanley Cup and recorded a whooping victory against the defending champions. Later they defeated the Dallas Stars in the quarterfinals and the Minnesota Wild’s in the Conference Finals before recording seven consecutive losses against the New Jersey Devils. Their goaltender, Jean-Sebastien was the proud winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy for being the most valuable player of the playoffs, owing to his remarkable performance.

In the next season, owing to the NHL CBA’ s final year and NHL labor dispute looming ahead, the Ducks were weighed down with low attendance at their games, in spite of their recent good performances. They were unsuccessful in making it to the playoffs.

In the 2004 season attempts were made for a sell out but things did not work out owing to a very low offer that was even less than the whole franchise’s worth. Although many well-paid Mighty Ducks players made press conferences and confirmed the team as being financially secure and unaffected by the NHL’s monetary situation.

The following year, Henry Samueli of California bought the team at a net price of $75 million, who vowed against its relocation from Anaheim. Brian Burke who was a former president for the Vancouver Canucks, was selected as the Duck’s general Manager and Executive Vice President in 2005.

The month August in the same year saw the appointment of Randy Carlyle as the new coach, which made him the seventh coach for the Mighty Ducks in the franchise’s history. He had replaced Mike Babcock, who had departed as the Ducks coach in favor of the Detroit Red Wings. Carlyle also coached the Manitoba Moose, a member of the AHL, after he had served as the assistant with the Washington Capitals. Further, he was a member of the staff of the Winnipeg Jets. His tenure with the Manitoba lasted from 1996 to 2001.

Teemu Selane, a former Duck player was reasssigned. He had an impressive previous record with the Mighty Duck’s. Before his reassignment, he was playing with the Avalanche. In addition, Scott Niedermayer, who was Rob Niedermayer sibling, was also acquired.
